ANTONIO C. GUEVARA M.

Journalist // SEO Consultant // Content Creator // Digital marketing manager // Web Developer newbie // Digital Native // Story-teller // SCRUM Player

Hi! Great to meet you. I’m Antonio, a content creation rockstar, but first, let me introduce myself as a writer. I've been writing since childhood, and I first started using computers at seven. From that day on, they’ve been a constant in my life. By thirteen, I was already working with them.

Growing up, my mother owned a bookstore where I spent most of my days. Later, she started a radio program, and I was deeply involved in researching the scripts. This experience inspired me to pursue journalism and sharpened my skills, setting the stage for my journey as a content creator.

SIT FOR A WHILE AND PAY ATTENTION. THIS IS GOING TO BE FUN.

SOFTCORE PORN: DESNUDANDO LA NOTICIA EXPERIENCE

My first professional job was on a news web show called Undressing the News. The show featured hosts who narrated the day’s news while gradually taking off their clothes. It was a unique experience—not for the “shock value,” but for everything I learned along the way.

I began as an intern, where I handled news writing (focusing on Politics and Economics) and developed creative scripts. I was also responsible for selecting music, images, and backgrounds, even creating special storyboards from scratch. Defending my internship experience back in college was one of the most entertaining and rewarding moments of my life.

I was promoted to Deputy Manager. Generally doing what the CEO did not want to do, such as: talking to suppliers, directing operations, doing paperwork, etc. Among these various tasks, I partially directed the construction of a professional recording studio and coordinated the development of the program in its English version to completion, which required: staff recruitment, workflows and coordination for recording and post production schedules.

Meanwhile, I was helping them with technical support and some psychological training for the presenters.

In this position, I had the opportunity to oversee an entire floor event. The Sex Expo 2016 for our sister brand “TuMotelito.com”: same owner, different brand. The event was a success. Unfortunately I had to return to my city of origin due to the situation in which the country was at that time, thus separating me from this job in person, and simply providing technical support remotely to the channel's subscribers.

MARKETING AND CONTENT CREATION: A NEW TRADE

I returned from Caracas to my hometown. My family needed me there. And with what I learned at DLN and with a little extra study, I knew I could start working with digital marketing.

While I was working at DLN, I was helping to coordinate the efforts of each team. The writing for digital marketing and SEO caught my attention. This is probably one of the most boring stages of my professional career, as it consisted mainly of the repetition action required to become good at something. Monotonous, but it forged my foundation as a recursive marketer.

I joined a content creation platform called We Are Content, while also doing freelance ghostwriting for college students, teachers, and local magazines.

Then, this new opportunity arrived. I was offered to work at another DLN partner company that was lacking freelance content writers. Fishing Talent, a marketing agency.

They needed articles, translations, web content, email marketing content, newsletters, etc. I also supported them with some research on social media for strategic purposes (buyers-persona, scraping influencers contacts).

The amount of knowledge I acquired regarding digital marketing due to the research I did, opened my mind to the endless possibilities represented by Big Data, Data Science and all the technology that was cutting-edge at the time.

Creating fun content for the blog, developing content for software guides and researching for his web show Mr. Marketing Genius, which was an Instagram Marketing program, but I was not able to register any of his programs for this portfolio.

Here I also dedicated myself fully to story-telling. I wrote some good metaphorical stories for the purpose of teaching marketing. Nothing anecdotal or relevant happened during this job. I left it because ghostwriting was going very well and I preferred to dedicate myself full time to it. After a couple of months, I started working with the Aprendo Marketing team. It was almost the same. Write marketing lessons and help assisting the teacher with the online classes.

MY (BRIEF) ERA OF TRADITIONAL JOURNALISM

Amor desmedido, profesora encarcelada - Doral Times

The Venezuelan economy has forced me to leave Caracas more times than I can count, and this time was no exception. During my last two months working with Aprendo Marketing and Doral Time, issues over unpaid wages led to repeated conflicts. In the end, I decided to quit.

I had to return to my hometown once again. While there, an opportunity came up to work at a long-standing local newspaper with a 30-year history. The paper was struggling financially and couldn’t sustain itself. They still operated as a print publication with a minimal and outdated web presence, essentially stuck in the era of print media. They needed someone to help bring them into the digital age.

My plan was:

  • Improve social media,

  • Create a new website with WordPress,

  • Restructure the work team with people trained to work in a newsroom,

  • Create a new workflow for original content creation,

  • Propose the business model based on online advertising and

  • Reactivate the newsroom that was without resources.

Due to the crisis in Venezuela, most journalists had already emigrated.

Just as I took the position, those who were still working there resigned—their salaries couldn’t even cover public transportation. With the worsening crisis, not everyone could hold on.

In this position, the person responsible for web development left the project unfinished. With the budget already spent, I saw no other option but to take on the biggest "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED" of my life. I committed myself to learning WordPress Bakery (the tool used for building the site), along with HTML and CSS, to complete the project myself. This experience quickly led me into the world of technical SEO, as I needed to optimize the entire site—something I had never done before. But with determination, I pushed through and, in the end, I succeeded.

The site was completed—remodeled, redesigned, optimized, and fully functional, enabling it to generate revenue by selling advertising space to local businesses. The objectives achieved are detailed below:

After completing the project, I made the decision to leave the country. To achieve all the goals I had set within my timeframe of two months, I worked 16 hours a day, Monday through Sunday. This relentless schedule, combined with the harsh economic crisis, was taking a serious toll on my health. So, I decided to leave the country as soon as possible, ultimately resigning from my position.

Around this time, I also achieved an exciting milestone in my career with my first publication in an international media outlet.

When I joined the journal, nearly all the news being published was simply copied and pasted from other news sources.

At the same time I was at Aprendo Marketing, I worked for the Doral Times of Miami as a correspondent in Caracas.

I was in direct contact with the people. I was curious to investigate the needs, concerns and desires of people who spoke another language and with a culture more or less different from mine. It was an interesting challenge. I learned a lot about American legislation, state and politics, and I greatly improved my command of English. Much of the work in Venezuela was aimed at covering protests during the worst years of the crisis.

SEO to Death: Working on SaaS marketing

After leaving the country and living in Colombia during the pandemic, I secured a position at Remitano. This role proved to be a challenging environment that allowed me to refine my SEO skills and further develop the marketing techniques I had previously acquired while working with small businesses. Transitioning to an international finance corporation provided me with the opportunity to cultivate significant versatility as I encountered a diverse array of tasks and challenges.I was initially hired to:

  • Manage the exchange's Spanish blog: This responsibility entailed creating high-quality, SEO-optimized content, as well as overseeing its publication and promotion.

In my role leading the Spanish community on social media at Remitano, I was responsible for creating engaging content, interacting with users, moderating the community, and promoting the platform across various social media channels. I particularly excelled in fostering an active community on Telegram, where users consistently participated and collaborated to achieve our promotional objectives. This vibrant community continues to thrive today and can still be found at the provided link.

Due to my success in leading the Spanish community on social media, the team decided to assign me to more complex campaigns that involved off-platform marketing efforts to promote one of our products: Remitano Pay. This initiative included the placement of crypto points of sale in businesses affiliated with our platform. While the effort achieved its sales objectives, it ultimately did not meet the board's expectations and was subsequently canceled.

During my work focused on Venezuela, I had the opportunity to participate as a guest expert in an interview for the web show EmprendimientosVenezuela. In this interview, I discussed various aspects of Venezuela's crypto landscape at that time, highlighting how cryptocurrencies were being utilized as a response to the country's economic challenges. The context was critical, as many Venezuelans turned to crypto to navigate hyperinflation and unstable political conditions. This shift towards digital currencies provided them with a means to preserve value and conduct transactions amidst severe economic turmoil.

Remitano Africa Experience: Marketing Full Stack

After a year and a half of working with the Venezuelan market, a strategic shift from management led to a focus solely on the African and Asian markets. Consequently, I was transferred from the Venezuelan market to provide support in the new African markets, specifically in Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa, while also assisting our primary market: Nigeria.During my two years in these markets, I engaged in numerous activities and campaigns utilizing various techniques and approaches. Given the high volume of campaigns executed—approximately five to six per team member per quarter—establishing a chronological order is challenging. Instead, I will highlight some key activities:

  • Implement Content Management Strategies: This involved planning, creating, and distributing high-quality content across multiple formats for different channels.

  • Develop Social Media Management campaigns: Creation of attractive content, organization of events, management of communities on social networks, data analysis and optimization of strategies. As well as supporting other team members outside the marketing department who needed the development of written pieces, promotion of new features of the platform, announcements about maintenance times, etc.

It still persist until today.
